There's a mighty roar coming out of Portland these days. The big quadrennial meeting of what is called "General Conference" is the decision-making time for the U Methodist church at large. Watching it online is what you might call a mixed blessing......you get to feel like you are practically sitting in that room with them, like you are gazing at the proceedings from up over their shoulders. But the distress I can feel in my body is vibrant: my beloved church, the church I was raised in, the church that I feel DNA allegiance to, is wrestling with crucial decisions and struggling for coming to agreement, or to consensus, or to at least workable plans.
